Celebrating 25 Years

We are shaving our heads to raise money for childhood cancer research in honor of Jasmine Psaris!

Jasmine was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in Aug 2014. By Apr 2015, she had her right fibula resected, undergone 6 rounds of chemotherapy and published three short mysteries. She began walking again with the help of crutches and soon regained control of her right ankle. She left the crutches behind and embraced 5th grade, PE class, competitive swimming and piano.

Jasmine's beautiful hair slowly returned through 2015 and 2016. But just as 6th grade started, and she was enjoying the wonders of middle school, CT scans found nodules in her lungs. While her classmates traveled to Beijing and walked along the Great Wall, Jasmine was having tumors removed from both of her lungs.

A lump in her right thigh and a bump on her left ring finger quickly proved to be malignant as well. Jasmine was in a fight for her life.

Jasmine left Hong Kong without being able to say goodbye to her classmates and friends. She started treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering in Nov 2016 and found time to finish her 6th grade coursework and maintain a few close friendships over Skype.

Minecraft, mystery novels, arts and crafts and her cat Trixie kept her spirits high. But although the chemotherapy was able to shrink the tumors and the wonderful surgeons at MSK were able to remove them, the cancer had already spread.

Jasmine passed away on Nov 27th, 2017, a few days after celebrating a quiet 13th birthday at home. Jasmine spent her time focused on the fun and exciting things that life had to offer.
